Thank you!

Wow, what a great adventure! Having returned from the Habitat for Humanity build in El Salvador, I have a renewed appreciation the blessings we have here in Canada.

On April 14th, my wife Debbie and I and 10 others arrived in a country that continues to struggle with the lingering effects of past civil wars, high unemployment, and a very high crime rate. We set up in a community just outside of Ahuachapán. Habitat was in the process of building 30 homes, four of which we helped on. El Salvador’s economy has been hampered by natural disasters such as earthquakes and hurricanes, but currently has a steady growing economy.

Every day we started with morning devotions with the teams, hired masons and the families whose homes we were working on. This helped bring a large sense of hope to the community. Then off to work. I loved getting my hands dirty, sweating and bringing hope of a better future to a family in need. I was honored to give back in this way and proud to serve these families and new friends.

Habitat is also impacting the community development with other programs more than just housing; health education, leadership, youth value education, business development, and culture exchange.  My wife, Debbie had the pleasure to assist in their program helping the women to sew and make quilts. She also helped out with local mom’s, teaching about good hygiene, and breastfeeding tips.   

I want to personally thank all the people that help support Debbie, myself and our team in this build. You are all part of the solution to ending poverty and giving hope to this nation! We could not have done it without your generous support.
