Last year we had the opportunity to manage the Habitat
for Humanity Gift Home project.
After working with the good people at Habitat, and experiencing the momentum
of new relationships and giving back to our community here in Ottawa,
we wanted to do more.
Habitat for Humanity is made up of affiliate partners
in 100 countries around the globe. Their Global
Village Program connects volunteers from around the world who are
working hand in hand to eliminate poverty housing one house at a time.
In April of 2011, my wife Debbie and I plan to join a group of people
from various local churches to help with a project in El Salvador. We
will be working on a build site with Global Villages in Ahuachapán, an impoverished area
of western El Salvador bordering Guatemala. This is a major project that
will target poverty housing in that country.
This trip is costly and
the volunteers will be paying their own travel expenses and raising funds
to contribute materials which will be purchased in El Salvador. Various
fundraising efforts are underway, including a dinner/silent auction that
was held on March 12, 2011. We still need your help. Visit our Facebook
event page to
